Real development for children must have some check marks, targets - some things that we can measure and decide whether our children are progressing or not. Let us look at some aspects which we need to keep in our mind to decide the growth of our children.

1. Academic Excellence - This is the first and extremely important point that decides a large part of our future. Being good in academics is not a chance event, it is a choice. Most people do not understand this aspect very clearly hence there is a need to stress on it. If we make correct choices and decide consciously to be good in academics, we will be good. Being competent in this aspect gives an individual lots of choices in life. Those choices empower us and help us grow. Therefore, academic excellence must be put in a child's mind by guardians and family members.

2. Personality Development - An individual must stand out in  a crowd. There has to be a lot of confidence inside children, they must feel good about themselves in small group settings as well as in large crowd. A confident child can take many steps for building his future without fear of others opinions. Good personality also demands good communication skills - in native language, in Hindi and in English. If the child can achieve such a level of proficiency, there will be a lot more that life will offer.

3. Global Knowledge - A child can acquire as much knowledge as he/she wants. However, there has to be a system which gives the child that knowledge in an interesting manner. There are vast areas of interest that can arouse the curiosity of a child. Once a child becomes aware of other things besides academics, a lot of questions will come up in the growing mind. Parents, teachers and guides have to feed that knowledge as well as follow it up by providing correct and relative material. This will make the child knowledgeable, purposeful and future ready.

These three aspects of development must be known to every parent. Once we accept and understand these, then only we will be able to take some steps to make children good in these important areas of development of life. How to achieve this, we will find out in coming blogs.

The decisions that impact a child's life are taken mostly by parents. While it is true that impulsive nature has its merit but a careful analysis of self, family and the child is very necessary in case we want to bring out the best in the child.
